This is an 8" x 8" abstract work using acrylic painted paper collaged on wood panel, honoring those currently protesting the South Dakota oil pipeline planned through tribal burial lands and under the Missouri River, threatening the drinking water of at least 17 million people. I used the colors of the land and the water and the dark lines overlooking, embracing, protecting the land and water. Donations from any sales will be made to the Water Protector's cause.
Mary Sullivan creates "in the spirit of nature" which she experiences as boundless creativity and variety. According to Sullivan creating in the spirit of nature is a fascinating journey. A journey inspired by painter Edvard Munch's quote, "Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye . . . it also includes the inner pictures of the soul." For the past few years she has concentrated on using water media with a limited palette of permanent light fast inks or acrylics. Mary exhibits with a regional group of abstract artists, Art Beyond Tradition, and with the Art League of Hilton Head and with Maye River Gallery in Bluffton SC.
