Artist's Description
The original surreal painting matted with 8 ply mat and with black frame with gold, was done by pouring & dripping inks and moving them only with a palette knife and then scattering pure gold dust. I was exploring how our perceptions shift, playing with figure and ground, exploring dualities of light and dark, surface and subliminal, commonplace and mysterious.
About Mary Sullivan
Mary Sullivan creates "in the spirit of nature" which she experiences as boundless creativity and variety. According to Sullivan creating in the spirit of nature is a fascinating journey. A journey inspired by painter Edvard Munch's quote, "Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye . . . it also includes the inner pictures of the soul." For the past few years she has concentrated on using water media with a limited palette of permanent light fast inks or acrylics. Mary exhibits with a regional group of abstract artists, Art Beyond Tradition, and with the Art League of Hilton Head and with Maye River Gallery in Bluffton SC.
