This work is a collage made from acrylic skins peeled off my palette. It is inspired by the Gullah culture on Hilton Head Island. The Ring Shout Dance is a joyful ritual still performed today.
Mary Sullivan creates "in the spirit of nature" which she experiences as boundless creativity and variety. According to Sullivan creating in the spirit of nature is a fascinating journey. A journey inspired by painter Edvard Munch's quote, "Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye . . . it also includes the inner pictures of the soul." For the past few years she has concentrated on using water media with a limited palette of permanent light fast inks or acrylics. Mary exhibits with a regional group of abstract artists, Art Beyond Tradition, and with the Art League of Hilton Head and with Maye River Gallery in Bluffton SC.
